Sealcoating is the process of using certain materials to ensure that water doesn’t get into nooks and crannies in your lot, weaken the sub-base and create cracks and potholes. Water is the number one enemy of parking lots. Sealcoating not only lays down a protective surfactant that seals or stops these cracks in the first place – it also replenishes oils that guard against bleaching UV rays that make lots brittle over time.

We’ve perfected our system so that nothing slips through the cracks. But sealcoating contractors face a lot of danger when working. And so, while performing sealcoating services, there are a few things we need to do in order to stay safe ourselves, protect others while we work, and all the while ensure that the job is done well.

Sealcoating contractors use a lot of big equipment without mirrors to help see what’s behind or near them, so having spotters or just someone to watch our back is necessary. At the end of the day, we have to be vigilant for ourselves, but watching out for each other is part of the job.

Knowing the project beforehand helps us to plan carefully for possible hazards. For example, if we’re doing parking lot sealcoating or parking lot sealcoating and striping, we have to take into account how many entrances there are, how busy it is, and where the blind spots are. We have to keep an eye on the road as well.

Working in places like Oak Brook, Downers Grove, and Naperville usually means that we’ll be working on an office campus or industrial building. In places like these, the safety of those who will be near the working site is paramount, meaning that we have to watch each other’s back as well as keeping a watchful eye on those around us.

Asphalt sealcoating in a construction site also means that we have to ensure the safety of civilians and workers, which can be difficult as there are a lot of factors we aren’t always able to control around us.

Working together is all about teamwork. Communicating plans and having monthly safety meetings also mean that the team stays updated on what works well and what can be worked on among different crews and within the office. Ensuring that everyone is on the same page keeps us all safe, as well as any civilians or workers around us.
