CATCH BASINS & DRAINAGE SYSTEMS

Catch basins are key to preventative maintenance. A proper drainage system can help put an end to parking lot puddles, cracks and potholes caused due to time, exposure, water damage, or a combination of factors.

From determining ‘why’ your basin has failed, to designing creative solutions — our team will guide you every step of the way with experience, expertise and a deep understanding of your lot’s needs.

WHY DRAINAGE BASINS MATTER

Drainage basins allow water to be transported away from your parking lot, road, or walkway —keeping the area free from puddles or damage. At Maul Paving, we optimize your systems to collect runoff and transport it to local waterways, ensuring your lot is dry and welcoming – rain or shine.

EXPLORE OUR CAPABILITIES

STANDARD CATCH BASINS

We’ll engineer your system with hydraulic cement and smart design – putting a stop to any unwanted openings in the basin.

CONCRETE-ENCASED DRAINAGE BASINS

On its own, concrete is strong. When combined with steel, the tensile strength is unmatched – making your basin more durable than asphalt alternatives.

TRENCH DRAINAGE BASINS

These shallow basins are ideal for dumpster areas, loading docks or entrance/exit points of a parking lot.

FRENCH DRAINS

These drains protect the sub-base layer of your parking lot, diverting moisture and preserving structural integrity.

FAILED BASINS CAN DRAIN YOUR BUDGET

Water running to basins can make it susceptible to deterioration over time. That’s why it’s imperative that basins are inspected regularly to identify signs of damage before it’s too late. Maul’s team of experts can help assess your lot’s needs and work with you to determine the best way to budget and plan for your Catch Basins & Drainage Systems.

WHY BASINS FAIL

  1. Debris like leaves, twigs, dirt, and litter when washed into the basin by rain, can choke the drainage and cause a backflow of water.
  2. In winter, freeze-thaw cycles may block pipes and cause water to overflow onto the asphalt or beneath the pavement around the basin. This erodes the foundation, causing cracks and potholes – in extreme cases, the basin may even cave in.
  3. De-icing chemicals and salt used in winter, chip away at the top of the basin – compromising the basin’s stability.

SIGNS OF A FAILED BASIN

Water trickling into drain gutters, sinkholes, and cracks in asphalt are all signs that a drainage basin may need help.
If you notice any of the following in your parking lot, reach out to us immediately.

  1. An overwhelmed basin that hasn’t returned to a normal state even 72 hours after rain has stopped
  2. A basin or grate that is pushing up higher than the surrounding asphalt
  3. The opposite – when the frame and grate start sinking
